Governor Polis urges rulemaking to require COVID vaccination among health care workers

To: All licensed health care facilities

From: Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division

Governor Polis urged the State Board of Health this week to quickly engage in rulemaking to require the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for personnel staffing at-risk populations and places where people receive essential medical care.

“After much consideration and conversations with both senior living industry leaders, patient advocates, and leaders in health care, I am writing today to ask that you engage in expedited rulemaking to require the vaccine for all personnel working directly with our vulnerable populations, personnel working in facilities with medically vulnerable populations, and personnel in the settings where people receive essential medical care,” the Governor wrote.

Colorado is faring better than our neighbors, are is seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases, largely due to the highly contagious delta variant. Individuals who have not received the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine are unprotected from delta and other COVID-19 variants which can lead to preventable hospitalizations and deaths.

The state health board will be meeting for emergency rulemaking on Monday, August 30. Meeting information is available here. For those who would like more information as it becomes available, please fill out the interested parties form.
