Colorado Resumes Requirements for Reporting Healthcare-Associated Infection Data, 2020 Quarters 3 and 4

To: Hospitals, ASCs, LTACHs, IRFs, CAHs

From: CO-CDPHE

Beginning July 1, 2020, the Extraordinary Circumstance Exception (ECE) that CMS announced on March 22, 2020 granting exceptions from reporting requirements and extensions for clinicians and providers participating in Medicare quality reporting programs ended. During the ECE, National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) facilities were not required to submit healthcare-associated infections (HAI) data for Q1 and Q2 2020 (January 1 through June 30). CMS now requires NHSN facilities to resume the submission of HAI data for Q3 and Q4 2020 (July 1 through December 31) to NHSN.

In accordance with the ECE, CDPHE extended the deadline for reporting HAI Reportable Conditions from Q4 2019 to June 30, 2020, and suspended the requirement for reporting during Q1 and Q2 2020. CDPHE will now resume requirements for reporting HAI data during Q3 and Q4 2020.

All Colorado facilities required to report HAI reportable conditions should resume reporting data from July 1, 2020 onward into NHSN according to established state requirements and deadlines (see Healthcare-Associated Infections Reportable Conditions). Reporting facilities include acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, pediatric hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, and renal outpatient dialysis centers.
