Upcoming Changes to QMAP Training and Approved Training Entity Application

House Bill 16-1424 changed portions of the statute that pertain to the administration of medications in facilities that are allowed to use Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAPs). The Division is amending its Chapter 24 regulations in order to align with the statutory changes. A task force of stakeholders has been working with division representatives since August 2016 to achieve consensus on proposed amendments to Chapter 24. The Department is requesting that the Board of Health schedule a public hearing for April 19, 2017, regarding adoption of the proposed changes. The rule with the proposed amendments may be viewed at . Changes to Chapter 24 are expected to take effect July 1, 2017

What has changed: CDPHE will no longer contract with Vendors/Instructors to teach the Medication Administration Course. Instead, CDPHE will now designate Approved Training Entities (ATE). Beginning April 1, 2017 those interested in becoming an ATE can submit an application, curriculum, content and testing for approval. Once the ATE has received written notification of approval from the department they may start teaching beginning 7/1/17.

Where to find ATE application and additional information: Please visit our website at www.healthfacilities.info and click on Qualified Medication Administration Personnel link. This will redirect you to the QMAP web page. Scroll down to Apply to become an approved training entity .
