Labor Day Reminder

To:
All Facilities

Purpose and Audience:
The purpose of this Informational Memo is to remind members, providers, and stakeholders about the importance of celebrating the Labor Day holiday in a safe and responsible manner in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within our communities, especially in congregate living settings. Information about community spread is also included to show a real world visual about the potential for COVID-19 spread within our communities. This memo is intended to provide educational information and does not supplant service specific guidance or requirements.

Information:
The Labor Day holiday is approaching on September 7th, 2020.

Preparing for Labor Day:
We all need to take EXTRA care to be safe over Labor Day to prevent a “Labor Day spike.”
  • Keep gatherings to 10 or fewer people
  • Outdoor activities pose less risk than indoor

Remember the BIG 3:
  1. Wear a face covering
  2. Wash hands frequently
  3. Maintain 6 feet of physical distance

Weighing Risk – Things to think about before taking part in activities:
  • Extra Risk?
  • People with extra risks of serious illness from COVID-19 should aim to limit social interaction as much as they can
  • How Many?
  • The smaller the group size and the larger the space the lower the risk
  • Inside or out?
  • Outdoor activities pose less risk than the same activities indoors
  • Is it worth it?
  • If something doesn’t add value but does add risk, reconsider

State research has also shown that one of the most important things in predicting potential outbreaks, especially in residential care settings where many of the most vulnerable populations reside, is the rolling 2-week incidence rate of COVID-19 in the surrounding local community.

If you live or work within a county experiencing a high level of virus transmission, please be careful and take extra precautions, as necessary.

Have fun, but be a responsible Coloradan on Labor Day weekend. Don’t forget to take steps to keep one another, and our communities, safe.
