Updated EMResource questions related to anticipated bivalent COVID-19 booster doses

 

This message provides an update to questions in EMResource/Juvare in preparation for the anticipated Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation of new bivalent COVID-19 booster doses in September 2022. An omicron BA.4/BA.5 spike protein component has been added to the original Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to create a bivalent booster, designed to protect against both the original strain of the COVID-19 virus and the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of the omicron strain that are currently predominant in Colorado. Receiving all recommended doses of COVID-19 vaccine is critical to protect both staff and residents from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized, and dying, and to prepare for potential fall and winter surges of COVID-19. Current COVID-19 vaccine recommendations are available in the Interim Clinical Considerations for Use of COVID-19 Vaccines CDC. Administration of any new vaccine can only begin after CDC’s official recommendations.  Per the Residential Care Facility Comprehensive Mitigation Guidance, facilities are required to offer a COVID-19 vaccine clinic to staff and residents inside their facility within 60 days of any update to CDC’s vaccine recommendations. CDPHE can assist with vaccination clinics for facilities that need it, but encourages all facilities to develop plans with community partners and document that information in the Ongoing COVID-19 Vaccination and Treatment Form.  The following EMResource/Juvare question will be required in weekly reporting. Question: CDPHE COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Assistance  Definition: The RCF Comprehensive Mitigation Guidance requires that facilities offer a COVID-19 vaccine clinic to staff and residents inside their facility within 60 days of any update to CDC’s vaccine recommendations. It should report the vaccine provider they will be using in the comments section of this question. Additionally, questions about the completion of vaccination clinics in residential care settings and the number of residents who receive the new bivalent booster doses will be required weekly EMResource/Juvare reporting after CDC’s recommendation is announced.  1.   Provide the most recent date(s) that your facility offered a COVID-19 vaccine clinic. 2.   Number of residents who received reformulated bivalent booster doses. Make sure that you retain those two pieces of information after completing your clinic. Reporting vaccine data into the EMResource situational awareness database is required per Public Health Order 20-20.  The EMResource access form can be completed here for first-time users in EMResource.
