To: All licensed healthcare facilities
From: Colorado Unified Coordination Center, Staffing Shortage Fusion Center
This memo provides updated information on the purpose of the Staffing Shortage Fusion Center and associated resource constraints as the number of COVID-19 cases remains high.
The goal of the fusion center is to work with all state, local public health agencies, and the private sector to:
- Process requests for COVID-19 staffing shortages.
- Identify staffing solutions.
- Send available staffing to eligible facilities.
- Monitor provided support teams.
The fusion center only accepts staffing requests for assistance directly related to COVID-19 in facilities where staff shortages are impacting patient care. Fusion center assistance is designed to be short-term to help bridge gaps in staff shortages.
To accomplish our objective, the fusion center uses a number of resources, including private staffing agencies, Colorado National Guard, Colorado Volunteer Mobilizer, and others. As requests increase, we assist as many facilities as possible, by prioritizing the most critical needs, while making every effort to increase our staffing capacity.
Evaluation Process
The fusion center continues to consider the complete circumstances when making allocation decisions. These include but are not limited to:
- Outbreak status.
- Percentage of staff out due to COVID.
- Whether or not the facility is accepting new patients.
- Whether the facility has had to, or is imminently planning, to transfer patients due to lack of adequate staff.
- Whether the facility has implemented Crisis Standards of Care.
Facilities may submit requests via the link below. Your request will be immediately reviewed, and a member of the fusion center will follow up as soon as possible to determine eligibility and identify available staffing solutions.
