TO: Hospitals in Colorado
FROM: Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE)
Interested in developing stewardship at your community hospital?
We are here to help! Last year we gathered data about antimicrobial stewardship programs across the state with the LEAP project. This year we are on the CASE to help you take your programs to the next level of development. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) and Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) are partnering on an endeavor to:
- Assist programs in developing evidence-based actions to improve antimicrobial stewardship
- Assist programs in developing tracking procedures to monitor antimicrobial stewardship efforts
- Assist programs in developing stewardship reporting protocols
- Provide expert consultation tailored to specific facilities
- Provide resources to support programs: e.g., treatment guidelines, dosing recommendations
- Provide guidance to develop programs that meet State and National standards (e.g., HQIP, Joint Commission, NHSN)
- Identify barriers to address in the future
- Provide a forum for discussion with your antimicrobial steward peers
Who we are: Physicians and pharmacists from the CHCO Antimicrobial Stewardship team and the Healthcare Acquired Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance program at CDPHE with experience in creating and maintaining CDC/TJC compliant and best practice stewardship programs.
Who should participate and why: Antimicrobial stewards at community acute care and critical access hospitals in Colorado. Participation is voluntary and at no cost. This is a quality improvement initiative intended to promote ongoing collaboration and facilitate the development of robust antimicrobial stewardship across Colorado for adult and pediatric patients alike. This initiative builds off prior work which assessed stewardship in the state and helped to inform our objectives. We suggest including technical assistance from CASE and any related reports as components of your quality management program.
What is involved: Participants are invited to attend a series of four virtual workshops focused on topics including data tracking and reporting, and priority actions such as handshake stewardship and prior authorization. Participants will also have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one consultations with practicing stewards and solicit feedback from physician and pharmacist experts.
When this will occur: The four virtual workshops will take place in 2022 from 12p-1p on January 21, February 25, April 22, and June 24. The one-on-one consultations will take place between the workshops and will be scheduled with individual facilities.
