Surveillance Testing Contract Extension

To: Residential care facilities (Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Group Homes, and Intermediate Care Facilities)

From: HFEMS Residential Care Strike Team

All state-funded contracts with our LCTF surveillance testing partners have been renewed past the original March 31, 2021 deadline. With the extension, facilities should continue weekly testing with no disruption.

As a general reminder, surveillance testing guidance remains the same, and weekly testing of all staff, as well as residents who leave the facility, is mandatory regardless of vaccination status. Comprehensive testing guidance may be found here.

Testing goals remain:
  • Employ on-going repeat surveillance testing of all staff and any resident who leaves the facility in order to identify and mitigate the spread of COVID-19
  • Improve COVID-19 outbreak response in residential care settings to prevent transmission and thereby minimize cases and deaths
  • Implement strategies for cohorting residents according to COVID-19 status to prevent transmission and conserve personal protective equipment
  • Decrease the strain on local healthcare systems
