Effective July 1, 2014 No Pre-Pouring of Medications in Assisted Living

Effective July 1, 2014, pre-pouring medications is no longer allowed in assisted living residences.

To be consistent with other division programs and to ensure resident/patient/client safety in all licensed programs, the division has decided the pre-pouring of medications in ALRs will not be permitted. The division would like to allow any ALRs who currently have staff pre-pouring medications a period of time to realign their policies and procedures to be in compliance with this policy. As of July 1, 2014, division staff will begin to survey to ensure staff do not pre-pour medications.

Please check the ALR Provider Resources page under the Medication Administration Guidance tab on our website for more specific information about this important decision.
