Healthcare-Associated Infections Advisory Committee Openings: Physician, Infection Preventionist, and Medical Statistician or Clinical Microbiologist

TO: Hospitals, ASC, ESDR Hospitals Facilities in Colorado

FROM: Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE)

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is recruiting new members for the Healthcare-Associated Infections Advisory (HAI) Committee. Currently, the committee is requesting applicants for the positions of: Physician, Infection Preventionist, and Medical Statistician or Clinical Microbiologist. Each position will be appointed by the Executive Director of CDPHE for a term of three years.

The HAI Advisory Committee is established under Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S.) 25-3-602 to provide oversite to CDPHE for the collection and public reporting of data on HAI infection rates from health facilities. The committee may also advise CDPHE on other HAI-related activities. The committee typically meets eight to ten times each year on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 2 to 4 p.m. at CDPHE in Denver, and all meetings are open for the public attendance and comment. A call-in option is available. There are 11 members who represent a variety of stakeholders. Membership is voluntary and qualifications are outlined in statute.

The Physician member must be board-certified or eligible, licensed in the state of Colorado, and affiliated with a Colorado hospital or medical school. In addition, the applicant must be an active member of a national organization specializing in healthcare epidemiology or infection control and demonstrate interest and expertise in health facility infection control.

The Infection Preventionist member must have expertise in the practice of infection prevention in healthcare settings. Applicants do not have to be Certified in Infection Control. At this time, we are preferably recruiting applicants with infection prevention expertise from a non-hospital setting.

The Medical Statistician or Clinical Microbiologist member must have an advanced degree in a relevant specialty such as biostatistics, epidemiology, or microbiology.

CDPHE invites qualified persons to submit a completed application, attached, with your resume or curriculum vitae by email to lynda.saignaphone@state.co.us. The deadline for submission is Friday, October 18. CDPHE will review applicants internally and discuss a summary of top applicants with the HAI Advisory Committee during an open session before making a recommendation to the Executive Director for appointment.

For more information, please email or call Lynda Saignaphone at lynda.saignaphone@state.co.us or 303-692-2923.
